Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada
About Company
The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) is an independent federal agency responsible for regulating and supervising Canada’s banks, insurance companies, trust and loan companies, and private pension plans. Established in 1987, OSFI plays a vital role in maintaining public confidence in the Canadian financial system.
OSFI’s mandate is to contribute to the safety and soundness of the Canadian financial system by ensuring that federally regulated financial institutions and pension plans operate in a safe and prudent manner. It does so by setting regulatory expectations, conducting risk-based supervision, and intervening when necessary to protect depositors and policyholders.
With its headquarters in Ottawa and regional offices in Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver, OSFI employs over 1,400 professionals across the country. The agency reports to the Minister of Finance and is accountable to Parliament through the Minister.
