Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) contributors are proud to serve Canada through defending its values, pastimes and sovereignty at domestic and abroad. They support freedom, democracy, the rule of thumb of law and human rights round the world.
The CAF are an entity separate and wonderful from the Department. The CAF are headed with the aid of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General J.H. Vance, Canada’s senior serving officer. Every day thousands of contributors of the Canadian Armed Forces make a contribution to protecting Canada through:
•Patrolling our coasts
•Monitoring our skies
•Leading seek and rescue missions

2. Defending North America
