Education Education:

  • Minimum age – 18 years old.
  • Individuals who are legally permitted to work in Canada are eligible to apply.
  • Full Alberta Class 5 Operator’s License (without GDL).
  • You should not have more than three demerits on your license within the last two years.

Experience Experience:

To be eligible for the Calgary Transit job, candidates must possess the following experience. Only applicants with the work experience listed below will be considered for the position.

  • Community Shuttle Operator – Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Transit Operator – Minimum 2 years of customer service experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Acquiring certificate equivalency in Canada is mandatory for those with foreign educational qualifications.

2. The Telephone Interview

  • Shortlisted candidates will have a phone interview based on their resumes and responses to the online questionnaire.

3. Aptitude Test

  • You will be required to take an industry-standard aptitude test to determine your suitability for the job. A non-refundable administration fee of $20 is charged to all applicants.

4. Map Test (Access Operators Only)

  • The test is designed to find information using the city map. It will also test the ability to search a map for answers to questions and interpret information from the provided map booklet.

5. The interview

  • If you pass all these, then the next step is an interview. The interview will be conducted in a Targeted Selection format.

What to bring to the interview:

  • Educational documents.
  • 2 Government IDs.
  • Driver’s Abstract for the last 2 years.
  • 3 work references (must be from a direct supervisor).

Transit & Shuttle Operators require one week before training.

🎓 Training programme

Transit/Community Shuttle Operators: 25 working days (full-time).

Access operators: 15 working days.

  • Regular Training Hours: 7:30 AM to 4 PM.
  • On special days, a shift from 5 am to 2 am may be required.
  • Training includes:
  1. Bus Driving (Class 2 Road Test)
  2. Corners and Turns
  3. Customer Service
  4. Written Exam & Driver Evaluation
  5. GIRO Software (Access Operators only)
  6. Wheelchair Securing Techniques

👔 What to Wear During Training

  • White Shirt (Collar Required).
  • Black Dress Pants.
  • Black Shoes, Black Socks.
  • Clip-on Tie Provided by Calgary Transit.

🛑 Jeans, Skirts, T-Shirts, Caps, and High Heels Prohibited.

💼 Working Hours and Benefits

Community Shuttle Operator:

  • Work Location: Spring Gardens Garage
  • 15 Guaranteed Hours per week
  • Weekends Required
  • Benefits May Be Available for Over 20 Hours.

Transit Operator:

  • Work Locations: Across four garages in Calgary
  • 60 Guaranteed Hours per 2 weeks (starting level)
  • Vacation: After 1 year, based on seniority.

Calgary Transit Access Operator:

  • No guaranteed hours initially (on-call)
  • Benefits are based on 60/75 hours.
  • Work Location: Access Garage
